Creativity Kick Start

What do you do to kick start your creativity?  I want to know!

I just can't seem to get going lately.  Although my life is way busier than it was just 6 months ago, I do find little pockets of time to create.  But when I sit down to make something, my mojo is missing.

Fred Mullett was in town last week teaching at a nearby stamp store.  I've admired his work for years, so I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to get my creative juices flowing and took one of his classes.  And I think it worked.  I've been working on some new projects today and feeling things moving again!

Here are a few of the things I made with rubber stamps, markers, pencils, ink and paint.  It was fun!

I'd love to hear what you do to find your mojo when its missing.  I'm going to write a blog post about it and would love your input!

I do love these fish! For me I can usually get my mojo back if I clean up some of the darn mess I make to begin with! Mojo kind of does not work when you can find stuff! Other times, it is just picking up a stamp or die cut and setting it down, walking away and then something kind of screams at you! Have a great weekend with mojo!

I write ideas down as soon as they come! Looking through my stuff helps as well. Cleaning the studio, of course, is helpful. Right now I'm working on a new miniature building, The Red Chair Coffee Shop. I'm creating little works of art for it, so I've been looking through all my little teeny trinkets, watch parts, etc.

Beautiful effects. When my Mojo goes missing I turn to my art books and catalogues, there is always something to inspire me, whether its colour, shapes etc. x

I love your fish-you'll have to teach us how to do that!
I'm fortunate that I always have so many things on the go, in different stages, and different mediums that I can usually find something to work on. Or else I lay on the couch in by PJ's and eat chips and watch TV until my mojo comes back. I also read art magazines, like Netty. That always works.

I wait, if it's not there, then for me there is no sense to even try, because whatever I am making doesn't turn out well and I end up getting more frustrated. It's all the time while I can't do any crafting that my mojo is working overtime, so maybe if you switch gears for awhile you will get back on track

I love Fred Mullett! I'd heard he had retired. I have a few of his stamps. So jealous of your class!

I love the fish, really nice art work!
As to getting out of a slump I find surfing the net to see what others are doing. Usually stepping out of my field, looking at other kinds of art will inspire me.

the fish are so funky!!! my mojo wanes sometimes- usually when I'm juggling too many balls and feeling under pressure or if I'm trying to create something that's not really me- if I go back to what I love- getting inky, then Mojo quickly returns :-) Debi x

Oooooh, those are some fab fish, Ali! I bet Fred's class was very interesting. When I need a boost I either go through past projects for inspiration, try something totally new to me, or watch some videos online by artists I like. Glad to hear you got a spark in class.... that's always the best "live in person" mojo jump for me.

I love your cards- love all of the different colors! I think I have that stamp too...... : ) I am very visual, so when my Mojo goes, I go 'look-see' either with books/magazines or I go blog hopping. I stop at Feline Playful and see what challenges are active too- and I either use a themed challenge or a sketch challenge to get creative. I also need to clean off my desk....a cluttered desk top really slows me down when I am trying to get creative!

thanks for posting this Ali my mojo took a trip last September and I really haven't done much of anything since. I really don't have anyone to send my cards too as my family and friends aren't much on cards. I was sending them to Operation One Write but the cost got to be too much when the economy took a dive. All the responses here have made me want to create again...if anyone has any ideas what to do with cards that doesn't cost anything please let me know.

Oh, I hate it when Mojo takes a holiday! Sometimes I go to Pintrest for inspiration or to my hundreds (okay more than hundreds), of art mags, papercrafting mags....sometimes if I just go through some of my older projects I find something to re-do or CASE from myself.
I love your fish.....what a fab class that must have been.
Sisters in Mojo Defunk....UNITE!!!! Let's go get that beast back!!!!

beautiful work Ali. taking classes is a good kickstarter, as you did with Fred M. visiting blogs is too, or reading a somerset studios magazine often does it for me. but sometimes i think one's mojo is gone becasue it is like winter -- the tree has to die a bit for the new buds to form. if mojo is down it is a good time for self care, walks, dreaming, thinking, reflecting. it always comes back doesn't it? you are such a wonderful artist that i am sure yours will come back with artfully creative vengeance! xo

I know of his technique. How lucky you got to see him in person. That should help with the mojo.
